IN RESIDENCE: Andrew Brehm and Jennifer Lauren Smith at The River Center, Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park.
Soon is Now’s inaugural residency artists Andrew Brehm and Jennifer Lauren Smith created new works re-using found materials. Brehm’s sculptures employ his signature paper pulp process, transforming household cardboard and white paper waste into sculpting materials. He also incorporates large blocks of styrofoam that wash ashore along the banks of the Hudson River. Jennifer Lauren Smith's large-scale glicee prints feature collaged threadbare flower petals gathered from Green-wood Cemetery. Her hand-bound artist book chronicles the parallels between learning to care for a new baby while becoming an amateur naturalist and collector of debris.Smith also exhibited a 35mm slide sequence documenting algae blooms and vernal pools during a wetland restoration on her family's property.
